News

  • The First Aid Squad was awarded a grant from the US Dept. of Homeland Security for safety improvements to their headquarters. The Squad building has served as a staging area, EMS command center, and temporary emergency room during recent major incidents.

  • 47 Squad members responded during a power outage at Overlook Hospital. In addition to answering 4 unrelated calls in town and covering the Our House Run that day, Squad volunteers organized ambulance transport of 17 patients to other area hospitals, staffed a temporary "emergency room" in their building, and set up a rehabilitation area for firefighters at the hospital.

  • The Summit First Aid Squad was selected to participate in a 50 ambulance New Jersey task force to respond to the Gulf region following Hurricane Katrina.

  • The First Aid Squad has added a 4th vehicle to it's fleet. "EMS 4" is used for scene support and a mobile command post at major incidents and also for first response.

  • The Summit First Aid Squad Softball team won the 2004 "Mayor's Trophy" on July 4.

  • Squad members were honored by the United Way of Summit New Providence & Berkeley Heights for their outstanding performance following the attacks on September 11. [ Full Story ]

First Aid Squad Events

May 4, 2010. is National EMS Week.

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 National Night Out Against Crime - display at Summit City Hall. Members of the Summit Police, Fire Departments and First Aid Squad will be on hand to promote crime prevention and safety.

Our members and ambulances provide coverage at most major community events including home football games, the Halloween Parade, Santa's arrival & First Night. The Squad also has a Bike Team that covers events with large areas and/or numbers of people.
