First Aid Squad to Replace 50-Year-Old Building

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad was given unanimous approval at Tuesday's City Council meeting to move forward with its plans to replace its current but outdated facility.

Mayor Proclaims September as Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month

At the September 17 Common Council meeting, Mayor Ellen Dickson presented First Aid Squad leaders with a City proclamation designating September as Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Month

Summit First Aid Squad Juniors Win Scholarship Awards

Four graduating high school students from the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad Junior Program have been awarded the Investors Savings Alice B. Nichols Scholarship Award for 2013.  The awards were given to Junior Members Carl Ganger, Alex Fortune, Michael Gelber, and Miriam Meller.

Squad Volunteer Recognized as Outstanding EMT

Mel Harari, an Emergency Medical Technician with the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad was honored last week by Overlook Medical Center with the EMT Excellence Award.

Summit Squad Bike Team Assists MS Bike Tour

For the 15th consecutive year the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad provided Emergency Medical Services to the annual bike ride to benefit Multiple Sclerosis.  Since 1998 the Summit EMS bike team has participated in the Bike MS event, providing care and assistance to riders on a 50-mile route along the Jersey Shore.   

The MS Society event is held the third Saturday of May every year.

Squad Captain Delivers Meals for Sage

Squad Captain, John Staunton, gets ready to deliver meals to senior residents with volunteer Nancye Falzon.  SAGE Eldercare in Summit coordinates the Meals On Wheels program with volunteers, who deliver meals Monday through Friday to elderly residents in parts of Union, Essex and Morris Counties.

New Officers Take Helm of Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad

The Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad swore in its new officers and board of trustees for 2013 at its last general meeting.  Mayor Ellen Dickson administered the oath of office and thanked all squad members for their dedication and service to Summit.

Preparedness Pays Off for First Aid Squad

The capabilities of the all-volunteer Summit First Aid Squad were put to the test by super storm Sandy and the nor’easter that followed just 1 week later.  Thanks to good planning and a dedicated membership, the Squad once again exceeded expectations.
