Minutes of the March 10, 1999 Meeting:

Meeting was called to order by Dan Sullivan. 12 Squads and 24 Members present for the meeting.

Northstar - Clarification of protocol. Agency who requested the helicopter will be involved in the decision to cancel. No one who has not medically assessed the patient will cancel nor will MICU cancel prior to arrival.


Latex Allergy - Linda Kosnik talked about latex gloves and how squads should switch to vinyl gloves. Apparently a lot of people are allergic to the latex gloves as well as susceptible patients. Linda suggests that the squads go with vinyl gloves. Occupational Health has investigated this. If you would like more information, please call the operator and ask to be transferred to the Occupational Health department. We will try to include an inservice at the May meeting.

Northstar Outreach - Terry Hoben (Air Medical Coordinator) with Northstar Outreach liaison program with EMS - Will provide education, inservices, feedback. Value added with statistics Discuss cares during meetings. Open to suggestions on needs of squads.

Trauma Triage, Transport courses being revamped will be starting soon for interested participants, Carol Jones at Morristown Memorial to Coordinate.

Helicopter triage and safety course is 3 hours and tour, may select cases to be reviewed if contacted prior to meeting. Terry Hoben's telephone number 973-972-7778 the crews telephone number is 973-972-7781.

Issues for Landings include Communications. Consider channel being used, helicopter needs to speak with onsite units to coordinate landing and clearance.

ED Security - Effective 4/15/ 1999 the ambulance entrance door has been locked. A keypad has been provided to the left of the Bay door with an intercom. The access code is: 7777*. If you forget the code use the intercom.

Weapons of Mass Destruction - 2nd district has 3 instructor trainers; our own Rich Jackson is one of them. Will schedule classes for instructors in near future.

EMS Dinner - is scheduled for 5/19/1999. EMS poster contest will be held again with the reception held on 5/19/1999.

EMS Education - Computer system with software to download AED's will be located in the squad locker room.

Year 2000 Issues - Please check your equipment for any type of clock functions. You may want to stock up on supplies, as there are predictions of shortages towards the end of the year.

Summit FAS is looking to donate a used defib to a needy squad. Call 908-277-9479 leave message for Kari Phair, Captain.

MICU Changes - Gilly Mckie is now the Atlantic Health Systems EMS Education Manager is still available at 522-2125. Jeannie Kerwin is Director, Atlantic Health Systems EMS Division. Anne Pacifico is supervisor Overlook MICU
